One of the traditional Teo Chew foods taken since hundred years ago been generation passed onto still being famously taken by locals in Johor known “Kueh Chap”.  The local more than fifty years history “Kedai Makan Soon Lai” at Batu Pahat, Johor was founded by the local origin Mr. Lim Siak Khee who born in year 1933, then recently being operating and owned by his son Mr. Lim Kwee Soon who born in year 1956 presenting their home recipe “Kueh Chap” to the public and visitors.

In year 1957, Mr. Lim Siak Khee who began his roadside mobile food stall selling “Kueh Chap” along Jalan Jenang, Batu Pahat later on been assisted by his son Lim Kwee Soon since year 1967 at his age of only eleven years old.  Then Kwee Soon at age of 15 years old took over to run the stall untill year 1971, been moved to Jalan Shahbandar for a year before operating along roadside at Jalan Fatimah.  From there Lim Kwee Soon introducing his home recipe and various the choices rather than only stewed egg, taufu and porks red having great response from the public enabled him to established his very first shoplot into the recent main branch at Jalan Fatimah, Batu Pahat in year 1993 named “Kedai Makan Soon Lai” Kueh Chap.

While the 3rd generation Simon Lim Kar Kheng (born 1986), Lim Kar Sin (born 1988) and Mars Lim Kia Poh (born 1990) been helping father (Lim Kwee Soon) in their restaurant since kids during school off time and holiday.  In year 2011 initially joined and stepped into the industry successfully exposed to established their second outlet at Jalan Ceria, Batu Pahat in year 2014 being operating by father Lim Kwee Soon and youngest son Mars Lim.  Simon Lim and Lim Kar Sin operating the main branch to served their regulars and visitors in same manner with their home traditional recipe.

In these two Teo Chew noodle houses, the top recommended surely will be a bowl of rice noodles which triangle in shape cooked in soup base which boiled for at least 3 hours with their secret eight chinese herbals mixture and all pork meats and internal parts insided, locally well known as “Kueh Chap” served topped with home fried onions brings the best eatery in town you must try when reached Batu Pahat, Johor.

Nowadays, there be 27 choices of sided to serve their regulars better included their home stewed salted veges which boiled long day, fried crispy ikan bilis with peanuts and bird eggs which cannot missed when stepped into the noodle house taken with a bowl of hot kueh chap rice noodles.
