Roasted Goose is a delicacy commonly found in China and Hong Kong. In Malaysia, it is rather difficult for the locals to enjoy delicious roasted goose as it is rare and not considered a local delicacy among the Chinese community. In Pudu, Kuala Lumpur, we have succesfully discovered and recognised one of the top roasted goose specialist “Chen Chen” operated by Mr. Chong Foo Chuan.

Mr. Chong Foo Chuan is the second generation roasted goose specialist. Currently, he is the owner of “Chen Chen”. His stall is presenting the homemade recipe “Roasted Goose” to the customers and has received positive response from the customers for its authentic and delicious roasted goose.

Mr. Chong Kok Hong was the owner and founder of “Chen Chen BBQ Goose, Duck”. Born in 1940 at Kuala Lumpur, he first stepped into the F&B industry when he was young. After working in a restaurant as a manager for more than 10 years, he decided to start his very own business. In 1980, he established “Chen Chen BBQ Goose, Duck” but did not sell roasted goose at first. It was only until 1982 when he decided to go to Hong Kong to learn the recipe and way of making “Roasted Goose”.

Mr. Chong Foo Chuan, the son of Mr. Chong Kok Hong, is currently the owner of “Chen Chen”. He was born in 1967 at Kuala Lumpur. At the age of 15, having great interest in food, he frequently helped his father in his business as well as learning how to master the roasted goose. Now, he has more than 35 years of experience in F&B industry and is considered an experienced roasted goose specialist.

The first recommended food is their signature “Roasted Goose”. The whole goose is first marinated with 5 ingredients mainly consisting of chinese traditional recipe. After that, the goose is left to be fried using a fan for 3 hours and finally be taken to be roasted for at least 45 minutes. The texture of the goose is soft and slightly crispy and tastes savoury.

The second recommended food is “Goose Intestine”. This selection is rare and only experienced chef has the knowledge of preparing this dish. This dish takes a lot of work before it is ready to be served. The goose intestine which is added with garlic and sauce tastes sweet and sour and it is best to be served as appetiser.

Last but not least, the owner also recommended his “Sour and Spicy Vegetable Soup”. The ingredients used include goose head, neck and dried chilies and cooked for at least 3 hours before it is completely cooked. This sour and spicy soup base is appetising and the texture of the veetables is soft.

Besides the top recommended food mentioned above, “Chen Chen” also serves many other selections such as roasted chicken, roasted duck, Char siew and roasted pork. All the selections available in “Chen Chen” are prepared by Mr. Chong himself.
