Traditional Herbal Pork Soup or locally re-nowned as “Bak Kut Teh” which believed that was originated from our nation Malaysia since nearly a decade ago being recently practised on respective recipes in the north, middle & south nation among the local Chinese delicacy eatery favourite by the visitors from around the world. Here in the south, we successfully recognised the 30 years “Popeye Bak Kut Teh” running their northen’s herbal pork soup in Johor into their 2nd generation.

The local Muar originated Mr. Lim Kan Hoe (born 1951), together with his wife Madam Soh Beck Beng (born 1954) both were the initial founders of this recommended herbal pork soup specialised restaurant “Popeye Bak Kut Teh” in Muar, Johor. Currently being running into their next generation by daughter Lim Hui Yin (born 1989), son in-law Foo Kim Leong (born 1979) and nephew Khoo Meng Kit (born 1992) continue serving their family’s home recipes to the public still on the same ground under a roof.

The founder Kan Hoe who at his age of 67 year old recently, all the while having great interest in eatery, also being passed onto recipes from Master in Penang added with his mission to survive his family made him in year 1989 stepped into the f&b industry began his very first chinese herbal pork soup eating house along Jalan Abdul Rahman, Muar named “Popeye Bak Kut Teh”. Being assisted by wife Beck Beng from the beginning, spent about 25 years to expose into 2-lots restaurant in year 2013.

While their daughter Hui Yin who grown up in an f&b family allowed her to touch the career since his teenage helping parents in their restaurant, foreseeing the market opportunity in the industry and vision to continue her parents’ career enabled Hui Yin in year 2014 fully stepped into the field running together with Kim Leong (brother-in-law) and Meng Kit (cousin brother) as 2nd generation taken up the responsibility, still at the same location in Muar, Johor. Also being recognised among the best in year 2018.

In this famous Popeye eating house, the founder’s first top recommended in menus surely will be their “Bak Kut Teh” in soup. Home-cooked recipe soup base boiled for at least an hour with mixtures of more than 10 chinese herbals and pork mix (ribs, pig’s tail, intestines, livers & prok belly), then finally served boiled in claypot mixed with mushrooms, dried beancurds and meat balls brings wonderful authentic northen style of chinese traditional herbal pork soup (Bak Kut Teh) you must try. Especially the herbal soup taste itself and the meat’s bites texture itself into mouth you neither found the same in town.

Other than bak kut teh, the owners also introduced their home recipe “Mushroom Chicken Feets” which most wanted by their regular customers. Chicken feets selected and cleaned, followed by deep fried then stewed for at least 45 minutes on their secret recipes mixture with mushroom brings excellent mushroom taste and chewing chicken feets in bites you cannot aside here.

Thirdly will be their “Signature Vinegar Pork Trotter”, also among the restaurant’s daily top seller favourite by their visitors. Local fresh pork trotter selected, braised an hour with quality black vinegar, soy sauce, ginger etc. Then served boiled in claypot brings perfect exotic sour & sweet taste you will never regret after tasted here. Especially the natural pork collagen brought out from the long braised itself and the unbelievable trotter’s bites texture in mouth neither found better elsewhere.


Nonetheless, according to founders, all their comers taken bak kut teh here will never left behind their exclusive home-cooked salted veges, sided with crispy ‘char kueh’ and chillies & chopped garlic shredded as only a complete combination. Perfect with a bowl of their hot boiled “Yam Rice” prepared in-house with mixtures of yam cubes & dried shrimp you really cannot missed when stepped towards this best recognised “Popeye Bak Kut Teh” restaurant along Jalan Abdul Rahman in Muar, Johor.
