In 2015, inspired by the Fook Chew traditional food and culture, he decided to establish his own restaurant in 2017 to spread the Fook Chew traditional delicacy to the locals. This Kon Lou Mee is prepared by using various ingredients such as handmade noodles, char siew, fried wonton, bean sprouts, onions and finally its special sauce. This traditional sauce contains more than 6 ingredients, will then be mixed into the noodles to become black in colour. This traditional Fook Chew noodles tastes sweet and the texture of the noodles is smooth and chewy. In short, Ji Gong Mian is a simple and healthy noodles and has been their signature noodles among the locals as well as the Singaporean.

The second recommended food will be “Curry Mee”. To prepare the broth, Mr. Daniel used more than 8 ingredients and cooked it for several hours before it is ready to be served. To complete the whole curry mee, the noodles is first cooked, and then added with some char siew, beans, taupok, bean sprouts, with shredded chicken and fish ball being optional based on customer preference. This curry mee is not too spicy, and the strong curry flavour tastes absolutely delicious.

The next will be its “Peanut Soup”. Peanut Soup has been Fook Chew people’s traditional food and can be easily cooked by boiling the peanuts with water for several hours to soften the peanuts. Some sugar will then added into the soup to make it taste sweet. This soft and sweet peanut soup has more than 100 years of history among the Fook Chew People and passed on to the next few generations.

Last but not least, Mr. Daniel also recommended “Fried Dumplings”. This fried dumpling does not use pork as its main ingredient and chicken is used instead. The dough is wrapped with wood ear (fungus), water chesnut and coriander (herb), and then deep fried to make it become crispy. The fried dumpling is crispy but not crunchy, smooth, delicious and no extra sauce is needed to strengthen the flavour.

Ji Gong Mian Restaurant is one of our top recommended restaurants (2017) in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, Johor.
