One of the Chinese Traditional food taken hundreds years ago, the “Salted Baked Chicken” also strongly introduced in South Malaysia by the Ansun, Perak origin Mr. Lee Kee Peng who born in year 1947 having more than 50 years experience in f&b industry was the founder and with wife Madam Loh Yok Shun, 58 years old from Ipoh, both are the immediate owners of the local well known “Restoran Tapai Tang” serving various chinese cuisine traditional recipes, also the ‘Salted Baked Chicken’.

Lee Kee Peng who currently at his age of 68 years old, stepped into the food industry since year 1958 while he was only 11 years old worked as ‘kopi chai’ in kopitiam at Ansun, Perak reached his 16 years old.  Afterwards travelled to Singapore to further expose under-employed as kitchen trainee and helper from year 1963 in order to sharpen his career in the industry.

Subsequent to more than 10 years explosure in Singapore with experience enabled Kee Peng to established his very first and owned roadside food stall in year 1975 introducing his home recipe Watan Kueh Teow or locally known ‘Watan Hor Fun’ which able to sell up to 200kg kueh teow daily, and also selling some other chinese cuisines operated more than ten years.  From there, Kee Peng been involved in his career expansion with his group established and running few chinese cuisine restaurant in 1980s at Singapore.  Unfortunately due to economy crisis, Kee Peng decided to end all his career in Singapore then returned to Malaysia and based in Johor Bahru.  In March 1998 he together with wife established their restaurant at Taman Melodies, Johor Bahru named “Restoran Tapai Tang” introducing their various recipe to the locals untill recent.

In this restaurant, surely being recommended will be their Signature home recipe Salted Baked Chicken which using fresh chicken with weight of about 1kg marinated with their secret recipe then wrapped with paper baked for about 45 minutes to an hour placed above ‘huge salt carpet’ brings the best exotic in town you cannot missed when reached Johor.  Secondly will be their Claypot Stir Fish with choices of Soon Hock, Patin, Talapia etc stired about 15 minutes inside claypot topped with shredded veges and gingers poured into their home made sauce brings the ever fresh and best eatery also most wanted by their regulars.  Moreover, the Salad Big Prawn deep fried mixed topped with 3 taste using mayonaise, salad cream and sweet corn which also must try.  For those who like crab surely cannot missed their Salted Egg Crab using big fresh meat crab above 700gm you never regret after consumed.  One of Kee Peng’s home recipe, the Seafood Watan Hor Fun will be one of the top recommended in the restaurant, fresh prawn, veges, pork slice and fish cake mixed fried in their recipe soup sauce poured into tasty fried hor fun or kueh teow makes the ‘Watan Hor Fun’ which top in their menu.  Nonetheless, their Floss French Beans fried topped with shredded squid, shredded kai lan and deep fried ikan bilis and the Crab Meat Fried Rice also among the most wanted by visitors and locals in “Restoran Tapai Tang”.  In beverage corner must taste their ‘Frost Beer’ which having great response from public and tourists when stepped into the restaurant.

    My friends and I like to frequent Tapaitang for the variety of dishes offered. Those pictured dishes are only some of the specialties. They have more to offer. I you are a beer drinker. You must try the snow beer here. The boss and his wife are very nice people. The staff are providing good service. Cheers.
