The local Johorean Mr. Liaw Choon Hock who born in year 1957 was the founder, together with his wife Madam Teo Siew Kim (born 1968) both are the immediate owners of the local Tampoi famous “Kedai Bak Kut Teh Hin Hock” at Johor Bharu. Recently being fully assisted by sons, running for more than 25 years in history.
Liaw Choon Hock who at his age of 59 years old currently, was formerly in Construction Industry helping father, been touched the f&b career since his 18th of age as “kopi kia” or helper in a chinese coffee shop in Kelantan for about 2 years then stepped into the bak kut teh field running a food stall named “Hock Kee Bak Kut Teh” for another 8 years in Kelantan.
While in year 1989, Liaw Choon Hock firstly established his bak kut teh eating house “Kedai Bak Kut Teh Hin Hock” in hometown at Bandar Baru Tampoi serving his chinese herbal soup recipe to the locals, also began introduced his boiled fish menu to the market at his 32 of age. Later-on wife Siew Kim joined the industry helping Choon Hock after a year. And their sons Jason Liaw Wee Quan (born 1991), Liaw Wei Chun (born 1992), Liaw Wei Chang (born 1994) and Liaw Wei Rong (born 1996) helping in the restaurant since kids, going to take over as 2nd generation recently.
In Hin Hock, the founder’s first recommended in menus surely will be their Bak Kut Teh Soup and Boiled Fish. Bak kut teh soup base boiled 90 minutes with 11 chinese herbals mixture, then into meats and spare ribs brings authentic herbal pork soup you must try. Serving boiled in claypot mixed into dried beancurd sheet and garlics makes you no reason to reject, especially when soup swallowed into mouth.
While another signature will be the above said Boiled Fish, the 1st in Tampoi (according to founder) which is their regulars most wanted only in Hin Hock. Local fresh fish selections, on customer’s request, boil-cooked in about 7-8 minutes then served poured onto their homemade soy sauce mixtures made from 5 ingredients and topped with deep fried garlic shredded brings exotic fish freshness and herbal taste you will never regret after tasted.
Another will be their Herbal Braised Pork Trotter, also among the restaurant’s top seller. Fresh pork trotter and knuckle braised 90 minutes with 5 chinese herbals and recipes mixture brings best meat’s texture in bites and delicious taste unlike the others in town, you cannot aside.
Moreover, the owners also recommend their Signature Pork Minced Beancurd. Homemade smooth beancurd or locally known “taufu” steamed in minutes, then served topped with their in-house fried minced pork will be the best in town.
