THE 40 YEARS NORTH TRADITIONAL TEOW CHEW BAK KUT TEH BEING INTRODUCED IN THE SOUTH BY TAN’s 2ND GENERATION
Been known by around the world, one of the Malaysia’s traditional chinese delicacy eatery “Bak Kut Teh” which is such chinese herbal pork soup taken since nearly a decade ago still being favourites by most of the locals and visitors today when reached our country Malaysia. We also found and recognised one of the best “Kang Chuan Bak Kut Teh” in the south (Johor) running by the Tan family.
The Perak originated Mr. Robert Tan Chaw Foo who born in year 1959, together with wife Madam Ivy Lam Yoke Ing (born 1964) both are the initial and immediate owners of the recommended “Kang Chuan Bak Kut Teh” restaurant in Johor Bharu. Also being assisted by their son Jansen Tan Hang Live (born 1990), serving their more than 40 years family’s north traditional chinese teow chew herbal pork soup (bak kut teh) to the southern since year 2015.
Robert Tan’s father late Mr. Tan Koon Kiang (1931-1997) or known “Uncle Kang”, who also the family’s recipe founder been reached Penang began his bak kut teh career in 1970s allowed son Robert Tan (recent owner) touched the industry at his age of about 14 years old helping father in their food stall then exposed into shoplot specialized their bak kut teh named “Kim Chuan”. From their, Robert spent nearly five years with father and been passed onto family’s generation recipes before quit the industry at his 18th. Later-on in year 1988, Robert Tan reached Johor Bharu and stepped into the Seafood Supplies Industry running in Singapore.
With the vision to bring again his family’s home recipes into the market and being agreed & supported by family members enabled Robert Tan successfully established his bak kut teh restaurant in year 2015 at Taman Desa Cemerlang, Johor. And in memories of his father who famously known “Uncle Kang” formerly, Robert Tan introducing his family’s traditional chinese herbal pork soup registered as “Kang Chuan Bak Kut Teh”.
In Kang Chuan, the recent owner Robert’s first recommended in menus surely will be their Teow Chew Bak Kut Teh Soup. Soup base boiled an hour with 10 chinese herbals mixture & pork internals, then into meats & bones, lastly served boiled in claypot mixed with dried beancurd and needle mushroom brings really authentic bak kut teh you must try when reached Johor. Especially the herbal soup base itself when swallowed into mouth.
Secondly will be their Black Vinegar Pork Trotter by wife Ivy’s recipe, which among their signature selection. Local fresh pork trotter selected, stewed an hour with Ivy’s few home recipe ingredients, then served boiled in claypot with ginger slices really brings exotic sweet & sour taste you cannot aside. The pork trotter bites texture itself you will like it. Also known by their regulars, the “Grandmother’s taste vinegar trotter”.
Another will be their Famous Assam Fish, also one of their customer’s most wanted in “Kang Chuan”. Red Fish or Pomfret Fish commonly selected, steamed then served topped with their homemade assam paste prepared in-house mixed with lady finger brings unbelievable sour & spicy taste you will neither found the same elsewhere.
Moreover, their Boiled Fish also you will never regret after tasted. Local sea pomfret or known “Tou Chang” boil-cooked about 5 minutes, then served only poured onto homemade soy sause mixture and deep fried garlic shredded brings the best fish freshness and authentic eatery you must try.
Nonetheless, the owners also introduced their Steamed Beancurd with Pork Minced which among the restaurant’s top seller. Steamed white water fresh beancurd and served topped with their home fried recipes minced pork you cannot missed when stepped into this “Kang Chuan Bak Kut Teh” at Taman Desa Cemerlang, Johor Bharu.
